BPI Building Analyst Technician (BAT) Certification Exam

The BPI Building Analyst Technician (BAT) Certification Exam validates the knowledge and field skills required to perform residential energy audits and building performance assessments. Candidates are evaluated on their ability to collect field data, perform diagnostic testing, assess building systems, and identify opportunities to improve a home’s energy efficiency, comfort, health, and safety.

The BAT certification is ideal for energy auditors, weatherization professionals, HVAC technicians, home performance contractors, and utility program staff who are responsible for conducting field inspections and gathering data used in whole-house energy assessments.

Testing Information

If you are testing in person with HVAC U, all required diagnostic equipment and testing tools will be provided for your examination.

If you are testing remotely, you will need:

• A reliable internet connection
• A computer for the testing session
• A smartphone or tablet to provide a live view of your field testing activities

Candidates testing remotely should review the Field House Requirements document located within the course materials to ensure the test site meets all certification requirements prior to scheduling their exam.
